From the age of four Ghoshal accompanied her mother on the harmonium. Her parents enrolled her for formal training in Hindustani classical music in Kota with Maheshchandra Sharma.
As a child she won the children's special episode of the Sa Re Ga Ma (now Sa Re Ga Ma Pa) contest on Zee TV. Kalyanji who also judged the competition, convinced her parents to move to Mumbai. She trained with him for 18 months and continued her classical music training with Mukta Bhide in Mumbai.
Ghoshal caught the attention of film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali when she participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa for a second time, this time competing as an adult. In 2000, he offered her the opportunity to be the voice of Paro, the lead female character of his film Devdas, who was portrayed by Aishwarya Rai. Shreya sang five songs under the music direction of Ismail Darbar in the film. This song earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, as well as Filmfare's RD Burman Award for New Music Talent, given to upcoming talents in music. She also won a National Film Award for the song "Bairi Piya".

Here are the first look pictures of Sonam Kapoor and Imran Khan from their new movie 'I Hate Love Storys'. The film is a romantic comedy directed by debutant Punit Malhotra and produced under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.
'I Hate Love Storys' is scheduled for release on 2nd July, 2010. Punit Malhotra is the nephew of designer Manish Malhotra and has earlier worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar.
'I Hate Love Storys' is the maxim Jay (Imran Khan) lives by. But as an assistant director to Veer (Samir Soni), the most famous romantic filmmaker of Indian film industry, Jay has little option but to live with larger than life, glossy, cinematic love on an everyday basis. Things only get worse when he is made to work under the new production designer on the film… Simran (Sonam Kapoor), with whom he shares the strangest first encounter.
